The packed out Islington Sustainability Fair on Monday [Inga Marchuk]

A COLLECTION of businesses and campaign groups came together to share ideas and resources at the annual Islington Sustainability Fair on Monday, writes Finn Logue.

Organised by Islington Climate Centre, a range of stalls at the Islington Assembly Hall in Upper Street offered services from the fixing of electronics to advice on retrofitting.

Anna Hyde, co-founder and director of ICC, said the fair enjoyed a “fabulous turnout”.

She added: “We have such a thriving sustainability sector in Islington and we can help each other make real change very quickly, which we will definitely need with all of these ongoing heatwaves.”

Gearoid Kennedy, the Sustainability Network Lead, added: “There’s a bunch of great local organisations helping residents to reduce their environmental impact, reduce energy costs, minimise waste or repair and up-cycle.

“It’s lovely to bring them together in one room – especially with lots of fun and creative ideas.”

Ms Hyde said that throughout the day there was over 25 kg of waste saved through the activities, and 22 items mended. The session was attended by Shine, Power Up North London, Shade the UK, Enviroblinds, Eco Count , Archway Upcycle, Retrofit, Borrow it tool library, Cubitt Arts, Octopus Community Centres and the Ecology Centre.
