A MAN has been sentenced to life after he admitted bludgeoning his elderly neighbour to death three days before the funeral of the victim’s wife.

Sable Thomas, 43, of Dalmeny Road, Holloway, was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday to serve a minimum of eight years in jail before he can apply for parole.

He had pleaded guilty to the the manslaughter of Anthony Rooks, 80, by virtue of diminished responsibility.

The court heard that Mr Rooks’ wife of 46 years died on April 14 2020 after battling ill health for almost a year.

Her funeral was due to take place on May 7, but Mr Rooks was then killed on May 4 that year.

His family said in a statement it felt like they were now “serving a life sentence” without him.

After his arrest, Mr Thomas told police he suffered from mental health issues and that he had stopped taking medication because it did not agree with him.
