‘Air pollution and noise from the traffic is affecting residents’ health’
• RESIDENTS of Liverpool Road continue to suffer from high levels of traffic and the “trajectory” continues to increase.
Air pollution and noise from the traffic is affecting residents’ health and stress levels and is creating sleepless nights for many.
In February 2020 a group of residents measured 50 per cent more traffic on Liverpool Road than on Upper Street. See: We are fearful about the traffic now in Liverpool Road, February 7, 2020.
Recently a separate group of residents counted three times more traffic on Liverpool Road than Upper Street. “There were more than three times as many cars, vans, etc, on residential Liverpool Road as there were on the main road Upper Street.” See: Now Liverpool Road is busier than the A1, May 28.
Liverpool Road residents have long been raising the traffic issues with councillors since Highbury Corner changes were made three years ago and local ward meetings have delivered zero action.
Our wards have been left behind in these low traffic schemes and it is imperative that the council now take action. It is vital that the council takes notice of the countless meetings, letters, and complaints from residents.
They must take significant action to reduce traffic and air pollution on Liverpool Road to protect the health of residents in Barnsbury and St Mary’s wards.
