Make a date for the UN World Environment Day
Friday, 29th May 2020
• AT the end of March, the council published their biodiversity action plan which is open for consultation until the end of July.
I would ask as many people as possible to have a read and send in their comments, particularly on areas where they might have expected a mention – community parklets, as one example.
The past 10 weeks in lockdown has proved, as if we needed any more proof, the importance of our immediate natural environment to us all for physical and mental wellbeing.
At the end of January #inspiringsustainableislington organised an event at the town hall where several local inspirational speakers outlined what they were doing to protect our environment.
Each was a different part of the same prism, each contributed in different, but linked, ways and all shared the same overall aim.
This had been planned as one of a series of meetings but, like so many other events, our second workshop had to be cancelled.
However, as June 5 is the UN’s World Environment Day, with a specific focus on biodiversity, it seemed a good opportunity to hold an online event to continue our work.
Our new website is still being created (www,inspiringsustainableislington.org), so please have a look to see who’s involved and if you know of more groups who would be interested then let us know.
We have three groups as our speakers: Islington Swifts, The Garden Classroom and London National Park City who have recently appointed their London-wide network of rangers and who are kindly hosting the meeting.
Everyone who is keen to learn more about the inspiring work of local groups is most welcome to register here: #inspiringsustainable celebrates World Environment Day-tickets.
We look forward to seeing you at 5pm on June 5.
