A CAFÉ for canines was launched in Angel this week, as its owners seek to help busy professionals balance “city life” and “dog ownership”.

Labelled the “Soho House for dogs”, it’s not the first foray for company WagWorks which has captured a niche in the market for “dog wellbeing services”.

The new spot, The Coffee House, offers snuffle mats, enrichment toys, and puppuccinos to make sure pets are put first.

For founders James Netherthorpe and Rhi and Ollie Hudd-Williams, the café is the latest addition to their “dog-first” centre, joining the daycare, vet and grooming facilities already in Islington.

WagWorks is a “membership club for dogs” and prices range from £230 to £940 a month.

Mr Hudd-Williams said: “We made a conscious decision to put community at the heart of everything we do at WagWorks.

“We’ve always been about creating a home-from-home environment for dogs, and also a solution that helps dog owners balance city life and dog ownership.”

For The Coffee House, the team say they have designed the space to be as dog-friendly as possible compared to tight and overstimulating coffee shops where owners are constantly having to worry about their pets.

Dr Steph Day, in-house vet and club manager, said: “Everything that a dog needs is under one roof, and now we’ve got everything that the owner needs as well.”

The Coffee House at WagWorks in Islington Square, Upper Street, is open to club members and non-members from 7am to 2pm, Tuesday-Saturday.
