A 44-year-old man was arrested near where a pensioner was assaulted on Highbury Corner yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon and detained under the Mental Health Act.
The police are treating the incident as a hate crime and the Safeguarding Unit are investigating.
A member of the public flagged down police officers at approximately 1.30pm and told them that a man had been assaulted in an unprovoked attack.
Officers found a 69-year-old suffering from facial injuries but he did not attend hospital for treatment.
Police stopped a 44-year-old man near by and he was arrested on suspicion of a racially motivated assault and detained under the Mental Health Act.
