The protest in Whitehall on Saturday
PENSIONERS joined an NHS march in Whitehall on Saturday wearing skeleton costumes in a grim warning over the state of adult social care.
Members of the Islington Pensioners’ Forum were among tens of thousands of people – including NHS workers, campaigners and union representatives – who protested against “yet more austerity” in the health service.
Chancellor Phillip Hammond announced more than £2billion of new funding for adult social care in England in his budget speech on Wednesday, but campaigners have described the move as “just a sticking plaster”.
Islington Council has raised council tax by 5 per cent to plug holes in stretched care budgets.
