May is no Thatcher but she will make a better prime minister than Corbyn

• WE can only speculate as to why Theresa May called an early election when she had no need to. I can only see two reasons: that she wants to return to Westminster with a bigger majority or that she hopes to lose and whoever wins is handed a poisoned chalice in regard to us leaving the European Union.

For the Labour Party to gain an overall majority it needs to win every seat it lost in Scotland at the last election. Could Labour find itself losing out in Scotland to the Scottish Tories and the SNP?

Ms May may be no Margaret Thatcher but she will make a better prime minister than Jeremy Corbyn, although it is good to hear that he has come out against Scottish independence.

If he sticks to his guns on Scottish independence he can say goodbye to any electoral pact with the SNP.
