• A RECENT incident in Camden High Street brought back to me the importance of having reasonable access to toilets for not only the general public but also those people with disabilities, older people and babies with their mothers.

Camden Council tell us they have council toilets in Camden Town, Highgate, West End Lane and Lincoln’s Inn Fields. Many public places have them, including Hampstead Heath, the zoo, libraries and museums.

Sainsbury have something called a Black Button Scheme for customers with disabilities. All very good, but not terribly helpful if you’re “caught short” in the high street!

Maybe one day we will take advantage of the recent change in planning laws and dedicate some sites as toilets with coin and card payment, disabled toilets, baby facilities and some free services.

These would have dedicated cleaning staff with stores on the upper floors. The sale in related toiletry products could increase income. Talk to your councillors!
