A NEW Young Mayor was elected for Islington this week on a platform of “disability is not inability”.
Jimmy Joseph is one of 14 youth councillors who were elected for Islington in November, and he has now been chosen by his peers to represent them at regional Young Mayor meetings.
Youth councillor Joseph said: “I’m most looking forward to helping Islington to the best of my ability; ensuring all young people achieve their potential and can overcome any barriers.
“My inspiration is my mum – I’m also an Arsenal fan and Saka is my footy hero.”
The youth councillors also elected a deputy mayor, a member of London Youth Assembly, and a member of UK Youth Parliament from among their ranks.
The cohort will be responsible for making sure the opinions of young people in the borough are heard.
