LABOUR comfortably held onto a Mildmay ward seat in a by-election today championing more green initiatives for the area.
Winning candidate Angelo Weekes told the Tribune people in the area wanted to see the area become “cleaner and greener” despite the frustrations some have expressed at the council’s Low Traffic Neighbourhood initiatives implemented across the borough.
He said: “Listening to members and listening to the residents. People want to see a cleaner and greener environment through many different means, not just the ones which are in the public eye at the moment but there is all sorts of initiatives.
“I want to be a voice for all residents. The hard work starts tomorrow. Getting elected is fine but it’s now about delivering on my promises.”
Cllr Weekes picked up 2,307 votes ahead of the Greens’ Zoe Alzamora on 883, the Conservative’s William Woodruffe on 603 and the Liberal Democrat’s Phil Stevens on 349.
