• TO echo Michael Graham’s letter (Water can’t escape drains blocked with silt and debris, July 30), I do not understand why the council does nothing to maintain the many drains around Highbury Fields, most of which appear to be blocked, with grid covers silted up, overgrown with weeds, or completely invisible under soil and leaves.

Every year we get heavy rain which causes a flood down the Fields from top to bottom because the drains aren’t functioning properly, and the council is responsible.

Can anyone else comment on this for other parks and public open spaces in Islington?
