E-BIKES will have to be parked in designated bays only under a new regime being considered by council chiefs.

Town Hall scrutiny chiefs will discuss proposed changes that aim to bring an end to Lime users being allowed to leave the bikes anywhere in the street.

Residents and councillors have been critical of e-bikes for years, arguing the haphazard way they are left in the street poses problems for people with disabilities, the elderly, and people pushing buggies.

They regularly call out the company on social media and post photos of bikes strewn across pavements.
Bunhill councillor Valerie Bossman-Quarshie, who sits on the environment scrutiny committee, said: “In your kitchen, you don’t just put cutlery anywhere. Everything has its place. It’s about having some order, and not having untidy pavements. You’ve got to think about the pavements.”

Lime chiefs, who are being summoned to give a presentation to councillors at the Town Hall on Tuesday night, say they “recognise the seriousness of issues caused by problematic parking and clustering of bikes in certain areas, particularly at high-usage locations and transport hubs”.
