Labour conference thornberry dancing

IT’S not a Labour Party conference if Islington South and Finsbury MP Emily Thornberry has taken her turn on the decks. She was bossing things at the UK Music/ TikTok party in Liverpool and drew whoops when she brought the Brat girl summer vibes back by cuing up Charlie XCX’S 360. There was more, though – the new chair of the foreign affairs select committee left the DJ booth to dance to Uptown Funk with Anas Sarwar, the leader of the Scottish Labour Party, as pictured above. Could either of them one day find themselves on Strictly?

Councillor Diarmuid Ward was ecstatic that Islington Labour’s yearly conference fringe meeting had been moved from the “broom cupboard” it had inhabited a few years ago to a large room “at the heart of conference”. Of course, it’s one thing having a big room, and another filling it. Let’s not be mean and simply say there were one or two empty seats.

• Regular readers will know that the Tribune was shunned by Councillor Praful Nargund (above) and his team during the general election. He was the Labour candidate who lost to Jeremy Corbyn after never telling us why he wanted to be an MP. It’s still a question for another day, but at least we got a handshake when our reporters finally spotted him in the conference centre.
