DOZENS of schoolchildren were rewarded for their hard work at a lavish ceremony at the Emirates Stadium.

Around 250 schoolchildren from across London received awards from legendary footballer Pat Rice and Labour MPs Emily Thornberry and Jeremy Corbyn last Thursday.

“The evening was a successful one and it was great having Arsenal legends there to say well done to the individuals, many of whom face barriers to achieving success,” said Jack Ferguson, an employability officer at the football club.

Arsenal in the Community, the charitable arm of the club, offers thousands of opportunities for youngsters. Course leaders handpicked hard-working students who received certificates at the ceremony.

The event marked the 20th anniversary of the Double Club, which, mirroring a football match, sees children participate in a 45-minute languages club and then a 45-minute football session.
