MP’s response to LTN issue is unacceptable
Friday, 10th November 2023

Emily Thornberry MP
• THE Tribune has fairly represented all sides of the current debate about the proposed LTN, low traffic neighbourhood, in Barnsbury which we very much appreciate.
There are, of course, strong arguments on both sides and we readily accept there is a need for some limited change.
But the response of our elected representatives has simply not been good enough especially as Islington is a one-party borough.
The latest example is the response we received from Emily Thornberry, our MP, this very week.
We wrote to her to express our concerns and the reply from her office was to say that she has “no responsibility” for “LTNS or liveable neighbourhoods” in her constituency.
Her assistant referred us to our elected councillors as if we did not already know who they were. We have already written to them to no avail.
And Cllr Rowena Champion, who represents our ward and is in charge of this policy, has clearly and publicly long since made up her mind whatever her constituents think.
It is unacceptable that our MP should wash her hands of this issue in this way. We deserve to know where she stands. After all this is the policy of her party for which she is accountable.
