LITTLE Simz scored the Brit Award for Best New Artist on Tuesday evening – and brought her mum on stage to celebrate.

The 27-year-old – whose real name is Simbiatu Ajikawo – is a former pupil of Highbury Fields School in Highbury Hill.

She said in her acceptance speech at the O2: “I am living proof that if you work hard at something, no matter where you come from, no matter your background, no matter your race, you can do something extraordinary.”

She added: “I grew up on a council estate. I am an independent artist and to be here tonight receiving this award is such a blessing. I am so grateful.”
