A MURDER investigation has been launched after a man died in hospital days after he was attacked in Holloway.

Ahmed Jama, 50, was assaulted in Hungerford Road on Friday, July 10. He was taken to hospital following the attack but died five days later, on Wednesday, July 15.

His death has led detectives to begin a murder inquiry.

Mr Jama’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialilly trained family liaison officers.

Two women, aged 18 and 19, were arrested last week on suspicion of GBH – grievous bodily harm. Both have since been released on bail while enquiries continue.

The inquiry has since been upgraded and police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.

They have appealed for witnesses and anyone with CCTV, doorbell or other video footage to come forward.

Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who leads policing in the area, said his thoughts were with Mr Jama’s family.

He said: “Our thoughts are first and foremost with Ahmed’s family and loved ones at this extremely difficult time.

“As enquiries continue, local residents can expect to see a continued police presence in the area over the coming days.”

As officers piece together the sequence of events, they have issued an appeal for anybody who might have caught anything on film, potentially on a mobile phone.

“I would ask anyone with any information, CCTV or doorbell camera footage which could support the investigation to contact us,” said Chief Superintendent Stewart.

No photograph of Mr Jama has so far been released as part of thepolice appeals. He had lived in neighbouring Camden.

Hungerford Road is a residential street with mixed housing, linking York Way to Hillmarton Road.

Officers are expected to remain in the area while detectives continue their enquiries, which have included door-to-door enquiries.

They have asked anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference CAD 1063/10Jul. Alternatively, information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or online.

Crimestoppers UK came into being in the 1990s and followed on from the Community Action Trust which had itself been created following the wall of silence which police faced after the Broadwater Farm riots.
