VOTERS in the Hillrise ward headed to the polls yesterday (Thursday) with mystery still surrounding why a Labour councillor stood down after only 69 days at the Town Hall.
Neither Ollie Steadman or the Labour Party has explained his decision to abandon the role so soon after winning a by-election earlier this year.
The party remained the favourites to retain the council seat through candidate Shreya Nanda, but independent candidates Alison Stoeker and Maxim Parr-Reid were out door knocking last night in an effort to challenge.
Ms Stoeker was joined on the campaign trail by Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn, whilst Mr Parr-Reid’s handwritten leaflets caused a flurry of interest on Twitter.
The Greens were also in the mix with candidate Alex Nettle. The Liberal Democrats fielded Imogen Wall.
Votes will be counted today (Friday), and the result will be on the Tribune’s website later.
