Tribune editor Richard Osley

THE Islington Tribune would like to thank all readers who sent in messages of condolence following the death of our editor Eric Gordon earlier this month.

The original founder, Eric was the newspaper’s only editor since its birth in 2003.

He was a unique journalist who was driven to creating this newspaper as a campaigning voice for the borough and ensuring it was open to all.

And this is the spirit with which his colleagues now commit to taking the Tribune – one of the last independent titles in the UK – forward.

Richard Osley has been appointed as the next editor – a choice supported by the staff and endorsed by Eric before his death.

He was previously the newspaper’s deputy editor and worked closely with Eric, news-editing each issue.

He said: “As people will have read in the many tributes over the last couple of weeks, Eric was a fantastic mentor to generations of reporters, including myself.

“This is not a one-man band, there is a group of people working to carry on the principles and values of the paper.

“Despite the most challenging times for our industry, everybody from the newsroom to production, sales, distribution – the deliverers on the streets – wants to continue what Eric started and believed in: a challenging independent local newspaper which sees its readers as the real boss.”
