THE new community safety chief has said that “nobody is safe until everyone feels safe”, as he steps up to tackle crime in the borough.

Councillor Angelo Weekes was appointed to the role on Monday, taking over from John Woolf, who is now executive member for homes and neighbourhoods.

“Islington has always been my home”, said Cllr Weekes, who was born in the borough and attended St Jude and St Paul’s School in Mildmay ward. “I am honoured to step into this role to serve the community I care so deeply about.”

He added: “I am committed to working with residents, partners, councils who border us and council colleagues who make Islington a safer, cleaner, and more resilient borough for us all”.

Cllr Weekes is also chair of the licensing committee, a governor at St Jude and St Paul’s Primary School and co-chair of the board of governors at Highbury Fields Secondary School.
