PLANS to build a nine-storey life sciences building at 176-178 York Way have been submitted to Islington Council on behalf of developer Delancey.

The building would be the latest addition to the King’s Cross “knowledge quarter”, and would contain 18,000sqm of floorspace.

The proposal includes 12,000sqm of research and laboratory space, 1,200sqm of affordable workspace, a flexible community and events space, and flexible makers’ space.

Before starting construction, developers would have to demolish the existing buildings. According to a design and access statement, these are currently “underused and largely unoccupied” former industrial buildings.

If the scheme goes ahead it would also see a new route being opened up through Bingfield Street and the pavements in Randall’s Road would be widened.
