New homes are more important than the trees
Friday, 27th November 2020
• AS a resident in N7, it’s infuriating to see the protests against new council homes at Dixon Clark Court continue.
“Save the Trees” should hang their heads in shame for deploying a QC and legal obfuscation to remain encamped there, further delaying plans to build much-needed new council homes.
We must not forget that every week construction is delayed is a week longer which families will languish in temporary accommodation, poor-standard privately rented properties, or already overcrowded council homes.
A real, human cost, which the protesters are willing to ignore to “save” a small number of trees which would be replaced 10 times over by the development which they are going to such lengths to thwart.
As a member of St Mary’s Branch Labour Party I brought a motion to our November meeting, which passed by an overwhelming majority, expressing full support for the council’s efforts to build new council homes at Dixon Clark Court.
That motion also urged the remaining protesters occupying the site to leave it immediately so that construction of these much-needed new homes is not further delayed – a plea I repeat here.
