• ARCHWAY Bridge, or “suicide bridge” as it is known, is not the problem (Studies show that fitting bridge barriers cuts suicides, July 14). It is a last resort.

If the NHS provided proper services for people with depression and mental health problems they would not have to go to Archway Bridge to end their lives. If the same money and time were spent on depressed and mentally ill people as is spent on breast cancer many lives could be saved.

If the appointment system was abolished and the patient could see a GP straight away or be able to see a mental health doctor in A&E this issue could be solved.

The NHS has totally failed mental health patients. Please, NHS, start saving lives and spend money on mentally sick and depressed people. Then people would no longer need to go to Archway Bridge to end their lives.
