None of the candidates opposing LTNs was elected

• THE view expressed in the letter (Road closure trials are not popular, May 20) is hardly supported by the results of the May 5 local elections in the borough.

That is the only poll that counts because it balances support and opposition to a particular policy.

In the election there were candidates who opposed the LTN, low traffic neighbourhood scheme.

None of them were elected. All the candidates who were elected – Labour and Greens – supported the scheme and its roll-out across the borough.

We can conclude that Islington Council now has an undivided mandate for the scheme.
That’s democracy.

Unless someone is going to suggest that the council should pursue a policy on LTNs that was roundly rejected in the election.
