Pupils at North Bridge House Senior Canonbury in Islington celebrate impressive GCSE results

NORTH BRIDGE HS CANONBURY GCSE 2023

Students from North Bridge House Senior Canonbury in Islington are celebrating excellent GCSE results today, with an overall 42% grades 7 or above (the equivalent to A or A*) – compared to 22% nationally – and particularly impressive results in STEAM.

The class of 2023 are celebrating an incredible 100% grades 8 and 9 in Further Maths alongside creative success in Art: 56% of students achieved a grade 8 or 9. A further 80% achieved a grade 7/A or above in Computer Science.

Top performing student Xianglian You particularly excelled in STEM, achieving a grade 9 in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics. Among her string of top grades, Xianglian also achieved a 9 in Chinese, representing the school’s strength in modern foreign languages.

Overall, 83% of students achieved a grade 7 or above in Chinese and 71% achieved the equivalent to an A or higher in French.

The school’s impressive number of high grades continued in the performing arts, with 100% and 67% of students securing grade 7 or above in Music and Drama respectively.

Keen actor and mathematician, Felix Pollard was among the school’s high achievers in STEAM, securing the top grade 9 in Maths, Further Maths and Drama, as well as a grade 8 in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Fellow high achiever, Sofie Pospislova also celebrated top grade success in the sciences, with a 9 in Chemistry and Physics and an 8 in Biology. Sofie achieved a further five grade 8s and one grade 7 and is looking forward to pursuing Sixth Form studies at Highgate.

Overall, the high achieving yet academically non-selective school saw almost a quarter of all grades awarded at 8 or above, and 73% of grades including English and Maths awarded at 5 or above.

These grades are testament to the hard work and commitment that our students have shown despite their educational journey having had a very different trajectory to those who sat exams in 2019. The class of 2023 may have grown up in a different world, but they have proven that, with the incredible support of their teachers, they have very bright futures ahead. I wish our Year 11 students the very best of luck in their next chapter and look forward to welcoming many back into the sixth form here at North Bridge House.”
