A COMMUNITY choir who spent 10 weeks rehearsing a canon of Christmas songs raised more than £1,000 for charity after it sold out its tickets.

The Finsbury Park Singers performed their Winter Larks concert on Tuesday at Christ Church Highbury in Highbury Grove in what was their third Christmas performance since forming in 2018.

Organiser Hannah Brine, who conducts the choir and wrote one of the songs performed, said the show had been a big success with more than 180 people in the audience and more than a grand was raised for the Single Homeless Project, based in Gray’s Inn Road, King’s Cross.

She said: “I thought the night went brilliantly. What the singers achieved in just 10 weeks of rehearsals – the quality of sound – was brilliant. Homelessness is a very important cause, incredibly important.”

Tara Carty, the engagement and volunteer manager of Single Homeless Project, came and gave a moving speech that Ms Brine said really hit home.

She added: “Most Londoners are three to six months away from being homeless themselves and don’t have the reserves in the bank. It could happen to anyone.”
