• THANKS to Unison’s Jane Doolan for her letter (Safety is the key to reopening, August 14), but I still maintain all libraries in the borough should have reopened in the week of July 4.

Libraries are spacious, with not that many people visiting, and it is easy to have the two-metre distancing. And quarantining returned books for 72 hours is straightforward.

Compare libraries with much smaller retail outlets which opened up the first day they could. Although I can understand that for nightclubs, pubs and the greyhound track at Romford, there are major issues.
