PUPILS at a Crouch Hill primary school finished off their arts week with an exhibition in their school hall on Friday after coming up with their own topic: “Ourselves, Our world, Our future.”

Cross-school members of the newly-formed Arts Council at Ashmount Primary School planned out their own Arts Week earlier this year after brainstorming sessions about their curriculum.

Reception teacher and arts lead Rosie Marsh-Mclaughlin said: “What happened at the beginning of this year is we’ve set up the Arts Council after they said they wanted more free choice with all of their art.

“They said they didn’t get enough time to do what they wanted, so we sat down together and brainstormed about what we would like to do for Arts Week.”

Taylor, in Year 6, made a Lorax-inspired piggy bank out of clay.

He said: “The Lorax is one of my favourite fictional characters, and it’s one of my favourite things – a piggy bank because I love money. And it expresses me because I love to have money because I spend it all in a matter of seconds and I love the Lorax.”
