EVER wondered what a Victorian Christmas would be like?

Children at Hugh Myddelton Primary School last week re-lived a “Ragged School Christmas party” from 1849, the inspiration for which was taken from an Illustrated London News article about a Christmas party in the Lamb and Flag school in Clerkenwell Green.

The children had a Victorian-style school lesson, which one student described as “horrendous,” and lots of fun was had as they ate roast dinner and plum pudding, watched a magic lantern show, and were each given a Christmas box with the article that inspired the event and an original Victorian penny.
