OUR politics channel Peeps raced past the one million views mark this week.

More than a quarter of a million people watched our exclusive interview with legendary music producer Brian Eno (pictured), who believes that the super-rich should be asked to contribute more in taxes.

Other films saw us interview Julia Davies, another millionaire calling for a wealth tax, and take a trip to Stevenage – a so-called “think-tank town” which Labour targeted at the last general election.

The Peeps video channel came about after people outside Camden said they would love a bit of the Tribune spirit to go beyond the borough boundaries.

Each film aims to provide a starting point for debate, which is why we have had 2,500 new subscribers in the past week as the channel continues to grow. It is all free to watch, of course, and free to subscribe.

Backpack millionaire: ‘Rich philanthropy isn’t democratic’

BACKPACK millionaire Julia Davies (pictured) warned that rich people’s philanthropy is no substitute to paying a wealth tax.

In an interview with Peeps Online on YouTube, she said: “Philanthropy by incredibly wealthy people is not generous, it’s not democratic.

“You see generosity and charitable giving in the single mum who is struggling to put food on the table but still manages to sponsor her child at school for a sponsored walk.

“That’s taking money out of the household budget. When you are an incredibly wealthy person, philanthropy is basically just something that is done to get away with this obscene wealth, unjust distribution on wealth.”

Ms Davies was speaking as the “Patriotic Millionaires” toured Westminster in a coach calling for a modest wealth tax on people who have £10million or more.
