SINGER songwriter Celeste – known for hits like Stop This Flame and This Is Who I Am – was this week among guest speakers at parliament revealing the horrific scale of misogyny in the music industry. She warned that women were often uncomfortable with what stylists wanted them to wear and that black artists in particular were “sexualised”.

Soprano singer Laura Cox told MPs on the Women and Equalities Committee she had been told that there would be no work for her unless somebody “died or got pregnant”, and that when she did get a big role a man asked her if she was there because she had slept with the conductor.
