STUDENTS were warning this week that going to university in London might become impossible in the future if tuition fees keep going up.

Sir Keir Starmer once pledged to scrap the fees completely but the new Labour government has raised them to £9,535 a year. Most undergraduate courses take at least three years.

The government said that the maintenence loans would also go up, but students in Bloomsbury told our online politics channel, Peeps Online, this week that young people were already facing a lifetime of debt if they decide to apply and that the cost of living in the capital was already tough. Some said they felt betrayed that there had not been a discussion to end tuition fees with the arrival of a new party in power.
