E-scooter

Please ride carefully

• ANOTHER cyclist is fighting for his life after a road traffic collision at a Camden road junction.

My thoughts are with his family and him and I hope he makes a full recovery. I make no further reference to the collision, as I do not know what happened.

I really would like to see some major changes where cyclist’s and legal e-scooters are concerned. I welcome any constructive discourse about what I am about to propose.

What I would like to see is all cyclists and legal e-scooters riders wearing head protection, all cyclists and legal e-scooter riders wearing high-visibility jackets, all cyclists and legal e-scooter riders having a full set of working lights, all cyclists and legal e-scooter riders having any form of sound that can be heard, such as a bell or a horn.

I will now enter into controversial proposals.

All cyclists should have insurance to travel on the roads and – two major issues – they should not ride up the inside of any vehicle, especially ones that are turning left; and they must stop at any traffic signal when it is red. And all should have a camera; that way there is proof of what happened if there is a collision.

I am not talking about cyclists and legal e-scooter riders as a whole. But there are some who do break the law and they know who they are; so to those I ask, please ride carefully; is it worth dying for?
