The Tribune has reported on real suffering in 2022, as many find it hard to make ends meet
Friday, 9th December 2022

WITH fewer than 20 sleeps to go until Christmas Day, the world has taken on a twinkly hue as people deck their homes in sparkly lights and hang wreaths of holly on their doors.
Cheery pubs serve warm mugs full of rich mulled wine and roaring fires warm the open hearths.
Across the borough, mince pies are stockpiled and advent calendar doors are opened by excited children keenly awaiting Santa’s visit. The festive cheer spreads from house to house as Christmas cards are penned and gifts wrapped up.
While we hope you are looking forward to the big day, we are also thinking of those who are dreading December 25.
This time of the year can be one of the hardest for many people, as they struggle with bills and the pressure of extra costs.
Some residents will feel isolated from the seasonal happiness, putting off the thought of spending another Christmas alone.
There are also families struggling to make ends meet again over the festive season, which lasts not just for one day, but for weeks. This Christmas, one in three Londoners will visit a food bank.
Across the borough there will be children waking up on Christmas Day without the heating on, let alone presents under the tree.
Outside north London, people may see ours as an affluent borough – but we know from our reporting throughout the year that it is a place where extreme hardship exists alongside abundance.
The Tribune has reported on real suffering in 2022, as prices spiral out of control and wages struggle to keep up, leaving many finding it hard to make ends meet. Every year we want to give something back to help the community. We must make sure no one is forgotten.
We know times are tough and money isn’t flowing, but we hope you can consider donating to our hamper appeal. It enables us to deliver a box of treats to someone deserving, and is our contribution to making sure that those people know that someone does care about them this season.
We’d also be grateful to those wishing to fundraise through an event, such as a sponsored run, cake sale or a pub quiz.
And if you know anyone deserving of a hamper this Christmas time, please do get in touch by emailing hamperappeal@islingtontribune.co.uk
