CLIMATE campaigners were back blocking the traffic on Wednesday as they carried out a slow walk demonstration.

Police were called to Upper Street after members of Just Stop Oil stepped into the road with their now-familiar orange banners.

Officers at first said that they were monitoring the protest, as car horns beeped and tailbacks grew longer. But later they told the demonstrators that they had to clear the road.

“The majority of the protesters have complied,” an update said. “However, one male who did not comply has been arrested for breach of the conditions.”

The group has taken similar action in Camden, Islington and Westminster, and elsewhere, in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, members threw orange paint over a garden at the Chelsea Flower Show. It also disrupted the World Snooker Championships last month.

Just Stop Oil wants the government to halt all future licensing and consents for the exploration, development and production of fossil fuels in the UK, citing the climate emergency.
