Pollution here is now worse

‘Yes, we should work for cleaner air, but road closures make pollution worse’
• I HAVE the misfortune to live in Waltham Forest where they have been closing the roads (over 70 now) since 2015 under the Mini-Holland programme.
This has caused many problems, some of them life-threatening. But the main thing to realise is that these measures are not green.
Before road closures Waltham Forest was the 13th most polluted borough; after closures it’s the second most polluted.
Since road closures car mileage in the borough has gone up, because all of us have longer journeys to get to any destination now.
Car usage has also declined less than boroughs that have not yet closed their roads. Yes, we should work for cleaner air, but road closures make pollution worse.
