St Mary Magdalene Academy
A SECONDARY school is planning to expand its student places.
Oversubscribed St Mary Magdalene Academy in Liverpool Road currently has 1,542 students enrolled, despite its formal capacity standing at just 1,360 pupils.
Run by Hive Education Trust, the school is now looking to formally expand its capacity to 1,590 students.
According to the school’s website, the new students will be accommodated at “our new site at Amwell Street”.
The consultation period will run until Wednesday May 24, with an in-person event at the school planned for May 19.
This expansion comes at a time when Islington schools are seeing a drop in pupil numbers.
According to the Town Hall’s School Organisation Plan, over the next five years schools across the borough will see “just above” 10 per cent of their places unfilled.
