PARENTS have ramped up efforts to raise funds to support the restoration of a cockerel sculpture outside a primary school by calling on friends to join them in a “poultry pilgrimage”.

A cockerel sculpture has been perched outside Whitehall Park School in Hornsey Lane since 1957 but over the years the John Willats artwork has become a bit shabby.

Whitehall Park School’s Parent, Teacher and Community Association (PTCA) is coordinating an effort to restore its feathered friend to his former glory.

Parents have now organised a walk from the cockerel in Archway to a small street in the City of London known simply as Poultry. The area gets its name from the produce once sold at nearby Cheapside.

The “poultry pilgrimage”, which is just over five miles long, is set to take place on April 10. Ramblers will walk in groups of six to comply with Covid regulations.
