Pressure groups are threatening democracy

• IN my opinion our democracy is being threatened and councils throughout England are being seduced by elitist pressure groups peddling a pipe dream of a pseudo-Utopia, a world without cars, and where the air is pure.
This is without any empathy over the health, social or economic impact it is having on the majority of our society.
This is particularly true of London where Labour councils and the left seem to be suffering from cognitive dissonance, no longer addressing the needs of the most vulnerable in society, those with disabilities, the elderly, the BAME community and those living in poverty, instead favouring these elitist groups.
Traffic is being displaced by LTNs onto already congested main roads, causing longer journey times, more congestion, more pollution.
This is made worse by many cycle lanes implemented without enough inclusive planning.
Driving jobs are the domain of the working classes. They cannot work from home. They were not furloughed during Covid-19 and their livelihoods are under threat.
Sole traders, small businesses, dependent on motor vehicles are suffering. First Covid-19 and now road closures are creating a desperate situation.
The emergency services’ response times are increasing, people are literally dying because of these LTNs and road closures, (LBC interview with a paramedic on August 17 2021).
Climate change is an issue, however LTNs are not a panacea and are doing more harm than good.
In the wake of Covid our society is being restructured by a minority of well-organised, highly-motivated, tech-savvy pressure groups.
The brave new world they are constructing is not an inclusive world and favours the socio-economic group they belong to.
We need to reset democracy and create a society which is inclusive and caring, or do we move towards National Socialism?
