Priest was right to speak out on road problems
Friday, 9th July 2021
• WHY the mini-tantrum by the Green Party press officer, directed towards the hugely respected priest of St Joan of Arc, (Roads row: closures halt priest’s dash to see the dying, July 2)?
The Sunday Telegraph piece was clearly about problems experienced locally by Father Gerard and priests in his deanery, the main one being huge difficulties getting to the Whittington Hospital to administer the Last Rites.
Islington Council have repeatedly said that future traffic evaporation will solve this problem so why not give the priests a 12-month exemption while this occurs?
Father Gerard absolutely has the right to speak out and highlight these serious problems and did so very respectfully. What is disappointing about that, press officer John Mullen?
We all get the broader aims of the scheme, what many of us don’t get is why the Green Party has become so intolerant to many important local issues.
