Holloway Prison

• ISLINGTON, like the rest of London, faces a severe housing shortage. For the council, building genuinely affordable homes on sites like the former Holloway Prison – owned by the government – is critical to combating this crisis.

I’m proud we have a policy of demanding that at least half of the properties in new developments on large sites (of 10 or more residential homes) are genuinely affordable. I believe this should apply to the prison site too.

We want to make it clear to the government what we expect from the site’s future development. Before we do, we want to hear residents’ ideas – starting today. I’d like to encourage people who live and work in the borough and have an opinion on the site to let us know their views by visiting www.islington.gov.uk/consultations.

Cllr DIARMAID WARD
Islington Council Labour executive member for housing and development
