• AS Islington Labour councillors for Junction and Tufnell Park wards, we were shocked to hear of the proposals to scrap the No 4 bus as part of planned cuts to services across the borough, due to Conservative funding cuts to Transport for London’s budget, (New routes: jobs fear for bus drivers, June 10).

This much-loved and much-needed service runs the length of Islington, providing a vital link to the Whittington Hospital, Archway, Tufnell Park and more.

We are already hearing from people in our wards about the impact that these changes will have on their lives; struggling to get to hospital appointments, to get their weekly shop, or getting
to and from school.

It is the government that is forcing these cuts. Their refusal to provide TfL with the long-term funding it needs as we recover from the pandemic is a cynical ploy to punish Londoners and make local people pay for the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our community needs the No 4 service and deserves better than Tory austerity and political tricks. We will stand with our residents and fight these bus cuts every step of the way. Visit https://www.islington-labour.org.uk/buses/ to oppose these plans and join the campaign.
