Convicted rapist Amir Faizi

• CONVICTED rapist Amir Faizi was not facing removal from the UK because of a lack of right-to-remain status (Hanged inmate ‘faced death’ in Afghanistan, January 26).

He was facing automatic deportation as a foreign criminal who had been sentenced to 12 months’ or more imprisonment. Removal and deportation are not interchangeable words.

Foreign guests in this country face deportation if they do not behave themselves. There is a right of appeal to a judge. It is, of course, very sad that a 31-year-old took his own life.
