Rat-runs are not so special

• I’M all in favour of new measures to restrict motor traffic in the borough and indeed across the whole of London.
What I find puzzling, however, is the too easy distinction being made between so called “rat-run” traffic and car use in general.
Low traffic neighbourhoods would allow residents to park their cars on their own streets but ban through-traffic or “rat-running”.
The problem is that nearly all streets in the borough have people living in them and suffer from speeding vehicles, congestion, and exhaust pollution.
Recently we have seen a massive increase in delivery motorbikes and vans on every street. Here I would suggest that delivery bikes should not be allowed to work on L-plates.
If you use a motor vehicle to get around the borough then you are part of the problem. We’d all like to live in low-traffic neighbourhoods.
Let’s live in a low-traffic London and get back on public transport when possible. Even better, walk or cycle!
