Exhaust diesel fumes

• WE urgently need to address climate change and reducing road traffic is a huge factor.

Of course, Islington Council should be keeping data on parking and traffic in the borough and should be open about it, (Who in the borough is in charge of parking places? December 13).

But there are two points to consider about roaming. After the controlled parking zones were introduced it certainly reduced commuter parking where I live, a short walk from Angel and King’s Cross.

But businesses complained of a loss of trade. Some shopping is too heavy or awkward to be carried and taxis are expensive, especially if you already own a car. The elderly and disabled people were also affected badly.

We have a massive education task ahead and we need to think carefully before introducing more measures that may only serve to irritate a public that we desperately need to get on board.

Carrot often works better than stick and public transport, which is generally good locally, needs to be maintained in the best possible state.
