Rehab is rated as ‘inadequate’

Inspectors raise a list of issues at care home for men who suffer long-term alcohol dependency

A REHABILITATION centre for alcoholics has been placed into special measures after a visit from inspectors.

The Haven in Holly Park, Crouch Hill, is a registered care home for men who suffer from long-term alcohol dependency.

A majority of people who are referred to the service through the council have experienced street homelessness or been in prison.

But Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors detailed a list of issues the home faced as a report published last week rated the service as “inadequate”.

The inspectors, who visited the home in February, found that there were no permanent staff working there.

Instead, every employee was either from an agency or part of a bank of employees working for the West London Mission – the charity which runs the service.

Concerns were also raised about the care that patients received. On several occasions the inspectors found that patients’ medication was “incorrectly administered” or they did not receive support to ensure they did take the medication.

The report also referenced an incident “where one client had assaulted another” but said “staff did not demonstrate how they had considered future safeguarding risks to other clients or make a safeguarding referral to the local authority”.

The service is now under review and could face enforcement action if it does not improve.

A West London Mission spokesman said work “to undertake the necessary improvements” was under way, adding: “No further comment will be made at this time.”
