Remembering Sabita, strong, independent – she won’t be forgotten
Friday, 29th April 2022

WE cannot publish any details around the police investigation into the death of Sabita Thanwani – the 19-year-old City University student.
Those will be reserved for a courtroom trial, when a man will be in the dock later this year.
But the Tribune felt her death could not pass as if it was just another crime statistic.

Staff and students at the university released pink balloons in Northampton Square in the week after her death – this was her favourite colour.
One of the vigil organisers, Rhian Soulsby-Cole, said: “You could always spot her on a night out by who was the pinkest in the room.”
The gathering had been told by speakers that Ms Thanwani had the “natural power to make people smile,” with one student describing her as one of the “strongest and most independent women that I know.”
