Roll out the safe cycling network now

‘Cycling is a cheap option’
• PETROL prices are at a record high and public transport fares have seen their biggest price hike in a decade.
Just getting around London is an increasing challenge for hard pressed family budgets.
Cycling is a cheap option.
Pop-up cycle lanes and LTNs, low traffic neighbourhoods, have made it feel easier and safer to cycle in some areas, especially in the south of the borough.
But more needs to be done to enable people to cycle in the rest of the borough.
In North Islington it often does not feel comfortable or safe to cycle to the shops or to cycle with children when mixing with motor traffic.
Choosing affordability shouldn’t mean accepting vulnerability.
I believe Islington Council and Transport for London need to accelerate the roll-out of a safe cycling network across the borough to help families save money on everyday journeys.
The cost of living crisis is impacting now so we can’t wait years for this.
