A MAN accused of murdering a 19-year-old student at her university halls will be tried next spring.
Maher Maaroufe, 23, was arrested following the death of Sabita Thanwani on March 19 and has been held on remand.
He appeared at the Old Bailey for a hearing on Friday, where the judge set a provisional date of May 2 for a possible jury hearing.
A plea has not yet been entered.
A psychology student at City University, Ms Thanwani was found injured at her home in at Arbour House, the university’s halls in Clerkenwell by police and died soon after.
Pink balloons were released in Northampton Square and candles lit by City University students in the immediate aftermath of her death as part of a wider “vigil against male violence”.
